Policies and prostitutes: Insurance party featured babes and beds

It’s nothing new for a company to reward its employees for a job well done. But one major global insurance company probably took things too far.

A few summers back, ERGO Insurance Group, whose parent is German reinsurance company Munich RE, hosted a shindig in Budapest, Hungary, to congratulate its high-performing insurance agents.

Among the partygoers were 20 prostitutes.

According to a May 18, 2011, article posted on Handelsblatt.com, a German business magazine, the prostitutes wore color-coded armbands: red for hostesses, yellow for those willing to perform sexual favors, and white for women reserved for executives and top agents. Beds were set up at the party, and the women were stamped on their forearms after each, um, transaction.

Senior managers involved in organizing the event no longer are employed by ERGO. Alexander Becker, a company spokesman, says the incident was “a clear violation” of company policy.
