Do I need to show a receipt in order to claim a theft for renters insurance?

In general, you don’t have to provide original receipts for stolen property. However, you do need to create an itemized list that describes each item in detail, gives the purchase price or estimate of cost, and the approximate date of purchase. Your claim will be processed more quickly when you can provide supporting documentation such as pictures, videos and receipts.
