Tips on preventing car theft

Car theft is a perennial problem and unfortunately it cannot be eliminated from the society that we live in. However the challenge lies in how difficult you can make it for somebody to steal your car! Take extraordinary precautions along with the ordinary ones. Give one moment extra to your car and you shall be safe and never sorry. Here are some useful tips on preventing car theft. Practice them and feel the remarkable difference when you start sleeping peacefully!

First and foremost step to be taken to discourage car theft is to install an alarm system. The first doubt you will have is the additional cost associated with the latest and the best alarm. Consider this not as an expenditure, instead consider it as a fictitious asset on your balance sheet! Another doubt that might be lingering on your mind would be that alarm systems have become so common that removing them is a cake walk for auto thieves. This is a misconception. If you have a visible alarm system installed then this will force the thief to think twice and look twice. If there are 100 people around then you can be sure that if the alarm goes buzz then at least 10 people will look around.

Related to the above mentioned tip is the fact that you must park your car in a secure area. Here secure does not relate to ‘high security’. It refers to areas which are well lit and well crowded. Pay parking fees but don’t park in illegal and isolated areas. Once you have parked your car in what you consider safe zone, don’t haste. Give just 5seconds extra. Do not leave any gadgets like I-pods, laptops and other attractive things on your seats. This is sure to attract an auto thief more and lure him towards your car. Shopping bags, stereos and surprisingly even chocolates may prove to be a magnetic force for auto thieves.

Even when you are parking your car in your own premises make sure that you properly close your windows, lock your car and if possible cover it. Do not follow blindly what others do. Wait and think. If you are living in a tropical area or your car seems to be parked under broad sunlight then do not leave the windows slightly open. If it heats up the car 5% less then simultaneously it increases theft possibility by 95%. Slightly open windows are extremely welcoming to professional thieves. To further prevent the possibilities of car theft install a kill switch. A kill switch locks your engine. Different types of such switches and computer chips could be installed in your car such that the engine will stop working in a short while or not start.

Another wonderful thing is to have tire locks although this might seem a little hassle prone to you but it is worth the effort at the end of the day! This tip must be used especially if your car type has a high record of theft in your locality. Registering your car with the police and having an alarm system connected with the local police station might also be an idea worth its while! So follow these simple ideas and keep car thieves a mile away from your car!
