These figures cover the 24 ZIP codes in our data that the City of Boston’s ZIP code map places in the city: the eight with a Boston mailing address and 16 the Postal Service files under neighborhood names such as Dorchester, Roxbury and Jamaica Plain.
We leave out two ZIP codes the city’s map shares with its neighbors: 02151, which the Postal Service files under Revere, and 02467, filed under Chestnut Hill, which also covers parts of Brookline and Newton. Our figures don’t include five small downtown ZIP codes on the map (02108, 02109, 02110, 02199 and 02203) or 02163, Harvard Business School’s ZIP code in Allston. Our statewide table lists the eight central ZIP codes as one Boston row, at $208 a month, and each neighborhood with its own mailing name separately; this guide combines all 24.

Among the insurers we price, Plymouth Rock has the lowest price in 12 of the 24 ZIP codes and GEICO in 11, including all eight central ones; in Brighton the two are effectively tied.
