CIGNA launches dental coverage for individual, family health insurance customers

Dental insurance now is available to customers of CIGNA’s individual and family health insurance plans, which are offered in 10 states.

CIGNA’s dental plans feature comprehensive coverage, deductibles as low as $50 a year for an individual, and no waiting period for routine procedures such as cleanings and X-rays. The monthly cost for dental coverage is about $31 per person.

CIGNA’s dental network has more than 80,000 dentists across the country.

“Regular dental care is an important part of staying healthy, as studies show that poor oral health can impact pregnancy, heart disease and diabetes,” Chris Hocevar, president of CIGNA’s individual and family health insurance plans, says in a statement.

The 10 states where CIGNA dental insurance now is sold along with individual and family health insurance plans are Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Statistics released in 2010 by the National Center for Health Statistics indicate that about 45 million Americans under age 65 who had private health insurance in 2008 did not have dental insurance.
