Full coverage in New Haven averages $3,612 a year, or about $301 a month, for our benchmark driver. Liability-only coverage at 20/40/10 limits averages $1,450 a year ($121 a month), and 50/100/50 liability with comprehensive and collision averages $3,449 ($287 a month).
GEICO’s New Haven average, about $190 a month, is 42% below Allstate’s ($325), a lead wide enough that we show the range instead of naming a single cheapest insurer. The published 2026 statewide Connecticut rate studies we reviewed most often rank GEICO cheapest for full coverage: three of the six put it first, two rank Travelers and one Encompass, apart from USAA, which sells only to military families. For liability-only coverage at 20/40/10 limits, averages run from about $73 to $155 a month; the lowest is far enough below the rest that we don’t name a cheapest insurer for that coverage level.

Raising liability limits from 50/100/50 to 100/300/100 adds about $163 a year on average in our New Haven data, with the same $500 deductibles. That’s about $14 a month for double the per-person injury limit, three times the per-crash limit and double the property damage limit, and the full-coverage package also raises uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to 100/300.
Yes, for our benchmark driver. Comparing the same insurers in the same New Haven ZIP codes, full coverage averaged $3,518 a year nine months earlier and $3,612 in rates as of Aug. 31, 2026, a 2.7% increase. Amica raised its average 5.0% and Progressive 4.5%, while Allstate’s and GEICO’s averages were unchanged. State Farm’s latest rates are from November 2025, so it’s left out of this comparison. Liability-only coverage at 20/40/10 limits rose 2.3%, led by Amica, which raised its liability-only average 4.8%.
The South Central Connecticut Planning Region averages about $261 a month for full coverage, the second-most expensive of Connecticut’s nine planning regions in our data, after the Greater Bridgeport Planning Region at $282.
Nearby towns cost less than the city: Hamden averages about $288 a month, West Haven $288, East Haven $269 and Branford $234. Where you live is one of the factors Connecticut insurers use, so neighboring towns can be priced differently.

Insurers must file their rates and rating rules with each state’s insurance regulator. Quadrant Information Services uses those filings to calculate what each insurer would charge a specific driver, and InsuranceQuotes analyzes those prices. This page uses rates in effect on Aug. 31, 2026.
Coverage requirements come from Connecticut law and the Connecticut Insurance Department. We refresh these figures when new rate data is released.

It depends on the coverage. For full coverage, averages in New Haven run from about $190 to $354 a month across the four major insurers we compared, and the gap between the two lowest is too wide for us to call one insurer the cheapest. For liability-only coverage at 20/40/10 limits, averages run from about $73 to $155 a month. The published 2026 statewide Connecticut rate studies we reviewed most often rank GEICO cheapest for full coverage, apart from USAA.
