Raising liability limits from 50/100/50 to 100/300/100 adds about $447 a year on average in our Cape Coral data, with the same $500 deductibles. That’s about $37 a month for double the per-person injury limit, three times the per-crash limit and double the property damage limit, and the full-coverage package also raises uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to 100/300.
Not for our benchmark driver. Comparing the three insurers that are in both sets of rates, in the same Cape Coral ZIP codes, their full-coverage average fell from $4,271 a year nine months earlier to $3,804 in rates as of Aug. 31, 2026, a 10.9% drop. Progressive cut its Cape Coral average 17.5%, GEICO 6.1% and Allstate 4.7%. Travelers is new in our rates over the past nine months, so it’s left out, which is why these averages differ from the Cape Coral average above. State Farm’s latest rates are from November 2025, so it’s left out of this comparison. Liability-only coverage at 15/30/10 limits fell 10.1%, led by Progressive, which cut its liability-only average 14.4%.
Lee County averages about $283 a month for full coverage, the 34th-most expensive of the 66 Florida counties we price, and Cape Coral comes in a little below that. Fort Myers and North Fort Myers, to the northeast, average about $283 and $281 a month, and Estero, to the southeast, $267. Where you live is one of the factors Florida insurers use, so neighboring cities can be priced differently.
Of these four insurers in Cape Coral, Travelers has the lowest full-coverage average, about $159 a month, and Progressive the highest, about $408, a difference of about $2,992 a year for the same driver and car.
More Florida cities and towns are in the Florida rates by city table, and you can compare states on our car insurance rates by state page.
Fort Myers, about six miles northeast, averages $283 a month and Lehigh Acres, about 20 miles east, $293. The nearest guides up the coast, St. Petersburg and Tampa, are more than 90 miles away and average $381 and $411.
Drivers in Cape Coral follow Florida’s rules. Every vehicle registered in Florida must carry at least:
Bodily injury liability isn’t required for most Florida drivers. You need it after certain at-fault injury crashes, at 10/20 with an SR-22 filing for three years, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, or after a DUI conviction, at 100/300/50 with an FR-44 filing for at least three years, under Florida Statutes section 324.023. Uninsured motorist coverage comes with any bodily injury liability policy unless you reject it in writing, under section 627.727.
Florida’s no-fault law is still in place. The 2026 bills that would have repealed it, S.B. 522 and H.B. 769, died in committee on March 13, 2026. Our Florida requirements guide covers the no-fault rules and the penalties for letting coverage lapse.

Coverage requirements come from Florida law and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. We refresh these figures when new rate data is released.
