Full coverage in Charleston averages $2,494 a year, or about $208 a month, for our benchmark driver. Liability-only coverage at South Carolina’s 25/50/25 minimum averages $963 a year ($80 a month), and 50/100/50 liability with comprehensive and collision averages $2,286 ($191 a month).
GEICO has the lowest full-coverage average among the five insurers in our Charleston rate data. USAA, Auto-Owners, American National, South Carolina Farm Bureau and Nationwide aren’t in the Quadrant rate data we analyze, so their rows in the table are estimates. Your ZIP code matters
Raising liability limits from 50/100/50 to 100/300/100 adds about $208 a year in our Charleston data, with the same $500 deductibles. That’s about $17 a month for double the per-person injury limit, three times the per-crash limit and double the property damage limit, and the full-coverage package also raises uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to 100/300.

Comparing the same insurers in the same Charleston ZIP codes, full coverage averaged $2,600 a year in rates as of Nov. 30, 2025, and $2,494 as of Aug. 31, 2026, a 4.1% drop. All of it came from State Farm, which cut its Charleston average 16.3%, while Allstate, GEICO, Progressive and Travelers didn’t change theirs. Liability-only coverage at 25/50/25 limits fell 2.5%, again because State Farm cut its average, by 9.6%.
The Charleston area and nearby Lowcountry counties are the most expensive part of South Carolina in our data. Charleston County averages $2,521 a year for full coverage, the fourth-most expensive of the 44 counties we price, and neighboring Dorchester County ($212 a month) is the second-most expensive and Berkeley County ($208) the 5th-most.
