Full coverage in Clinton averages $3,529 a year, or about $294 a month, for our benchmark driver. Liability-only coverage at 20/40/10 limits averages $881 a year ($73 a month), and 50/100/50 liability with comprehensive and collision averages $3,444 ($287 a month).
Hanover is far more expensive than the other insurers here: its full-coverage average of about $617 a month is 2.9 times the average of the other four. We keep it in our averages because it’s a rate the insurer filed with state regulators; without Hanover, the Clinton average would be about $213 a month.
The published 2026 statewide Michigan rate studies we reviewed most often rank GEICO cheapest for full coverage: four of the seven put it first, apart from USAA, which sells only to military families. One puts Progressive first, one Travelers and one Auto-Owners. For liability-only coverage at 20/40/10 limits, Auto-Owners has the lowest average among these five insurers, at about $51 a month, with Farm Bureau close behind at $54.

Raising liability limits from 50/100/50 to 100/300/100 adds about $85 a year on average in our Clinton data, with the same $500 deductibles. That’s about $7 a month for double the per-person injury limit, three times the per-crash limit and double the property damage limit, and the full-coverage package also raises uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to 100/300. Auto-Owners charges less for 100/300/100 than for 50/100/50 for our benchmark driver.
Not for our benchmark driver. Comparing the four insurers that are in both sets of rates, in the same Clinton ZIP code, their full-coverage average fell from $4,328 a year nine months earlier to $3,663 in rates as of Aug. 31, 2026, a 15.4% drop. Hanover’s Clinton average fell 24.2%, Progressive’s 5.9%, State Farm’s 5.1% and Auto-Owners’ 1.0%. Leaving Hanover out, the other three insurers in both sets of rates averaged 4.0% less for full coverage. Farm Bureau is new in our rates over the past nine months, so it’s left out, which is why these averages differ from the Clinton average above. AAA Auto Club’s latest rates are from November 2025, so it’s left out of this comparison. Liability-only coverage at 20/40/10 limits fell 14.8%, led by Hanover, which cut its liability-only average 40.8%.
Lenawee County averages about $315 a month for full coverage in our data, and Clinton runs a little below it. Tecumseh, about five miles south, averages about $300 a month and Adrian, the county seat, $313.
Prices vary more across the rest of the county: Hudson averages about $347 a month and Onsted $332. Michigan law bars insurers from pricing by ZIP code itself, but it lets them group drivers by territory, so neighboring towns can be priced differently.
