For a 40-year-old driver with a clean record, Mesa car insurance averages about $210 a month ($2,520 a year) for full coverage, based on the rates insurers had filed with state regulators as of Aug. 31, 2026. That’s about the same as the Arizona average of $206 a month. GEICO and Progressive are effectively tied for the lowest full-coverage average of the three insurers we price, at about $169 and $172 a month.
Mesa is priced close to the Arizona average and about $42 a month below Phoenix for our benchmark driver. It costs a little more than the other East Valley cities we cover: Gilbert averages $206 a month, Chandler $203 and Scottsdale $198.

Full coverage in Mesa averages $2,520 a year, or about $210 a month, for our benchmark driver. Liability-only coverage at 15/30/10 limits averages $1,024 a year ($85 a month), and 50/100/50 liability with comprehensive and collision averages $2,228 ($186 a month).
GEICO and Progressive are effectively tied for the lowest full-coverage average among the three insurers in our Mesa rate data. USAA, Travelers, Auto-Owners and Nationwide aren’t in the Quadrant rate data we analyze, so their rows in the table are estimates. The published 2026 statewide Arizona rate studies we reviewed most often rank Travelers cheapest for full coverage, apart from USAA, which sells only to military families; one puts Progressive first. For liability-only coverage at 15/30/10 limits, Progressive has the lowest average among the insurers we price, at about $69 a month, with GEICO close behind at $75.

Your ZIP code matters
Raising liability limits from 50/100/50 to 100/300/100 adds about $292 a year on average in our Mesa data, with the same $500 deductibles. That’s about $24 a month for double the per-person injury limit, three times the per-crash limit and double the property damage limit, and the full-coverage package also raises uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to 100/300.
Not for our benchmark driver. Comparing the same insurers in the same Mesa ZIP codes, full coverage averaged $2,632 a year in rates as of Nov. 30, 2025, and $2,520 as of Aug. 31, 2026, a 4.3% drop. Progressive cut its Mesa average 17.6%, while Allstate raised its average 3.2%; GEICO’s average was unchanged. State Farm isn’t in the August 2026 rates, so it’s left out of this comparison. Liability-only coverage at 15/30/10 limits fell 0.1%, led by Progressive, which cut its liability-only average 7.2%.
Mesa is in Maricopa County, the most expensive of the 14 Arizona counties we price, at about $227 a month, but East Valley cities cost less than the county as a whole because central Phoenix and the West Valley raise the county average.
