How to Lower Your Car Insurance Rate in Reno

  1. Compare GEICO and Progressive first. They have the two lowest full-coverage averages among the four major insurers we compared in Reno, about $241 and $270 a month.
  2. Quote several insurers. Among the four major insurers we compared in Reno, the lowest and highest averages are about $91 a month apart for the same driver and car.
  3. Ask for uninsured motorist coverage at your liability limits. Nevada insurers must offer it, along with at least $1,000 of medical payments coverage, under NRS 687B.145; if you turned it down before, you can add it by asking in writing. Our full-coverage prices include it at 100/300.
  4. Compare at every renewal. Over the past nine months, GEICO has cut its Reno average 5.4% and Progressive 2.4%, while Allstate has raised its average 4.5%, so the order in our table can shift.
  5. Ask about discounts and check your deductible. Many insurers lower rates for a clean driving record, paying in full or insuring more than one car, so ask which auto insurance discounts you qualify for. Our full-coverage prices use $500 deductibles. A higher deductible lowers your premium but means you pay more yourself after a claim; see how deductibles affect your rate.
  6. Insure your car and home together. A multi-policy discount is a common way to save, so check average home insurance rates in Reno, and compare home insurance quotes alongside your car quotes. Renting? A renters insurance policy can qualify too.
