For a 40-year-old driver with a clean record, Lincoln car insurance averages about $203 a month ($2,434 a year) for full coverage, based on the rates insurers had filed with state regulators as of Aug. 31, 2026. That’s 9% below the Nebraska average of $224 a month. Progressive has the lowest full-coverage average of the four insurers we price, at about $129 a month.
Lincoln has the lowest full-coverage average of the 38 Nebraska cities and towns we price: about $21 a month less than the Nebraska average and about $36 a month less than Omaha.
If you’re looking for cheap car insurance in Lincoln, the insurer matters far more than the neighborhood in our data. Progressive and Farmers Mutual of Nebraska average about $129 and $142 a month here, and Farm Bureau Financial Services and Allstate about $269 and $271, roughly twice as much.

Full coverage in Lincoln averages $2,434 a year, or about $203 a month, for our benchmark driver. Liability-only coverage at Nebraska’s 25/50/25 minimum averages $607 a year ($51 a month), and 50/100/50 liability with comprehensive and collision averages $2,336 ($195 a month).
Progressive has the lowest full-coverage average among the four insurers in our Lincoln rate data. The published 2026 statewide Nebraska rate studies we reviewed don’t agree on the cheapest insurer for full coverage. Of the seven that price it, two put Farmers Mutual of Nebraska first and two GEICO, apart from USAA, which sells only to military families, and the other three name other insurers. Farmers Mutual of Nebraska is first or second in all five that include it. For liability-only coverage at 25/50/25 limits, Farmers Mutual of Nebraska and Progressive are effectively tied for the lowest average, at about $28 a month each.

Your ZIP code matters
Raising liability limits from 50/100/50 to 100/300/100 adds about $98 a year on average in our Lincoln data, with the same $500 deductibles. That’s about $8 a month for double the per-person injury limit, three times the per-crash limit and double the property damage limit, and the full-coverage package also raises uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to 100/300.

Comparing the same insurers in the same Lincoln ZIP codes, full coverage averaged $2,584 a year in rates as of Nov. 30, 2025, and $2,434 as of Aug. 31, 2026, a 5.8% drop. Progressive cut its Lincoln average 23.0% and Farm Bureau Financial Services 9.9%, while Allstate raised its average 7.1%; Farmers Mutual of Nebraska’s average was unchanged. State Farm’s latest rates are from November 2025, so it’s left out of this comparison. Liability-only coverage at 25/50/25 limits fell 0.8%, led by Progressive, which cut its liability-only average 16.5%.
Lancaster County averages about $203 a month for full coverage, the least expensive of the 30 Nebraska counties we price, and all 15 of its ZIP codes in our data have a Lincoln mailing address.
